It is not a contest anyone would want to win, but Martha, the Neopolitan Mastiff who was named 2017’s World’s Ugliest Dog seemed proud of her achievement, as reported by E!Online.

The contest was held at Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California and the winner was described as “125 pounds of drooling, snoring, gassy, loud and silly girl.”

The 3-year-old Martha was rescued by her owner, Shirley Zindler from a California rescue group, after she had nearly gone blind from neglect. Since her adoption, Martha has had surgery for her eyesight, which has improved.

The Zindler family were rewards with the top honours, $1 500, a trophy and a trip to New York for press appearances.

The CEO of the fair commented in a statement about the competition, “We’re proud to celebrate all dogs and pets by showing that no matter their imperfections, they are adoptable, lovable and a great addition to any family.”
